[ Seeing the flower is actually nice. It reminds her of being back home, and getting things to the school. Even the note is well written, if embarrassing.
So she replies in the only form of communication that she can't appear embarrassed in. ]
Thanks for the flower and the note. Whenever I find a place to perform, I'll be sure to let you know.
I'm sure I will find out from the excitement in town, but your thoughts are appreciated regardless.
Warriors like myself are only good for killing, but if nothing else, we can protect things of beauty, so rest assured you will find a way to perform again.
[ on the morning of the 23rd, you receive a package, wrapped neatly in glossy white paper and gold ribbon, with a photo attached to it. It’s a picture of Teddy, your resident Prime Minister, giving puppy dog eyes at the camera and holding up a sign that reads “I ♥ HEROES”. the message on the back of the photo says: ]
Dear Maki Nishikino, I am happy to see that you made it back from Gammon, safe and sound. War is truly a terrible thing, and I can only imagine the horrors you had to go through. I thank you for your service, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of Blanc’s citizens. We are truly grateful.
Commander Pinta has informed me of your valiant efforts in the recent battle to protect the Kingdom of Gammon. Gammon is an important ally of the Republic of Blanc, and though a battle is never an enjoyable ordeal, I do hope you enjoyed the sights and celebrations our sister nation has to offer.
But not too much! Gammon is a great place, but Blanc missed you, Maki! I missed you. I thought it might be nice to send you a little gift, which I hope you’ll enjoy.
Warmest regards, Thierry Toussant
[ Unwrap the box and you will find:
A telescope, so Maki can observe the stars from the comfort of her room.
If your eyes happen to wander over to your window, you notice you’re not alone. Wait a minute, is that… Teddy peeking in, watching eagerly as you unwrap your gift? Was it just your imagination? Whether it is or not, he’s already gone! ]
[It might be part of her current job - that is, something she's doing for (easy) money - but Maki is the first person to come to mind when she finally gets around to sending out her own letters. So several days after the job is posted, Maki will be receiving a small package. The enclosed letter reads:]
Maki,
I've not yet thanked you for spending time with me, but I hope this letter will suffice. Enclosed is a pendant containing a blend of ground incense, and while it may not have the same effect as it would in my world, the sentiment remains the same - may it keep you safe in the field of battle.
Vivienne Stanbury
[It's painfully brief, but it's the thought that counts!!
Should Maki open the package, she'll find a silver pendant on a chain. Inside, is the incense. It's a very small amount, hardly enough to give off a noticeable smell, but if Maki really takes a whiff, it's a sharp, spicy sort of odour. To Vivienne, it smells like home.]
[ It's not extremely uncommon to find herself with a letter or package (though most of her fan mail doesn't come by carrier, thankfully) but it's still a welcome surprise. Especially when she sees who it's from.
Plopping down onto her bed with Diva curled up against her with her head on Maki's thigh, she opens the letter carefully to read it aloud to the both of them.
It's probably the most heartfelt thing she's ever read from someone she knows, which makes it all the more powerful. ]
Vivienne... [ She rereads it again quickly to herself.. ] S-She really seems like she's from a different era, huh Diva?
[ Finally she decides to open the box that came with it, her eyes opening wide at the piece inside.
Since she's come to Blanc, Maki hasn't had the same depth of choice in jewelry as she had back home. Her diamonds and pearls and other things she had gotten as presents from her Papa over the years are likely still in her jewelry box at home, leaving her with little to wear here when she wants to add something to an outfit. But that aside, the fact that Vivienne bought her something that seems to be filled with meaning, well, it's no wonder Maki feels her heart beating faster.
Sometime later, Vivienne will receive a letter in the same manner. ]
Dear Vivienne,
The oppressive heat continues to linger… Have you been doing well?
Thank you for the letter, and the pendant!♡ It's beautiful, I will make sure I wear it with me whenever I feel like I need your protection. I'm certain that it will bring me good luck, no matter what.
I hope that we can continue to spend time together though~ Whenever you like I'd be happy to take you out for coffee or shopping again!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Maki Nishikino
[ Perhaps unsurprisingly, Maki's returned letter is about as formal at least in opening and closing as could be. ]
[For the record, the handwriting of the letter from this particular person is immaculate. Either she spent a lot of time on it, or she's got a lot of practice.
Either way:]
To my dearest baby sister,
The theme of this entire letter lark is sincerity, as far as I can tell. But have you ever known me to be insincere about my feelings? I've said everything there is to say about you anyway. I'll criticize your faults and praise your achievements until we part ways; it's really as simple as that.
So I thought I would take this time to talk about our relationship instead. I'll admit I made it formal in response to your nonsensical drunken rambling, but...it's a fairly serious commitment at that. I'm not a serious person, nor do I enjoy taking on much responsibility these days if I can help it, but a promise is a promise. If I'm to be your elder sister, I'll do my best to at least be a competent one for your sake.
I don't know what they teach you in those schools of yours about me, but I want you to know that...truth be told, I don't know what it means to have a family. Most of mine conspired against me for my position, including my own mother, so I only ever thought of them as enemies closer to home than the warlords out on the battlefield.
However, the exception to that was my darling sister, Oichi. She was very much unlike me; a "princess type" kind of woman, kind and gentle, not nearly as forceful or ambitious. We loved each other dearly.
Unfortunately, when it came down to choosing between conquest and her, I had no choice but to sever ties with her. After I killed her husband, she never quite forgave me...I never spoke to her again.
So I hope you understand that while I am a strong, intelligent, charismatic and overall brilliant person, this is something I'll admit I'm...not quite experienced with. I can't promise I know exactly how to be your family, your elder sister. But I will resolve to do my best.
In honour of our connection, you should find an accompanying gift within the envelope this letter was in. I hope you like it; if not, it might sell for a fair amount of money somewhere. It wasn't cheap.
Sincerely, The esteemed Lord of the Oda clan, Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, And your wonderful elder sister without equal, Nobunaga.
[The gift in question is a medallion on a chain; but the medallion itself may be recognisable as the symbol of the Oda, depending on how familiar Maki is with it.]
[ Maki had been sitting at her desk studying a medical textbook she had purchased a while ago, taking notes, when Diva passed her a letter in her mouth that felt surprisingly hefty.
Taking care to open the letter with a handy opener, Maki goes to her bed to read, crossing her legs under her, with Diva's head resting on her thigh. ]
It's from Od--Nobunaga. "To my dearest baby sister" [ Maki coughs, her face a little red. ] She really can't forget that...
[ Reading the rest of the letter aloud, she can't help but roll her eyes at parts, and others to be surprised how candid her friend, her nee-sama, could be. And yet, despite the fact that maybe she ought to be worried that she's so close to someone who admits to murder, she's still happy.
Which is why she takes the time to return a letter. ]
To my big sister,
Summer is gone, and the leaves will start to change color now, won't they? I hope you've been well.
I learned your name back in Elementary school, about how you unified our country, how you changed the world. You built Azuchi Castle, and I learned more about you when I visited the remains of Azuchi Castle in Kyoto on a school trip in Middle school. You helped establish the tea ceremony and Kabuki, didn't you? You even opened the country to Western trade that helped to spread Japanese culture to other parts of the world.
Did you know I flew all the way around the world to do the same thing? In our own ways we helped accomplish the same things, didn't we? While we didn't unite the country under one banner exactly, we did bring all of Japan's school idols together to spread the love of idols as much as we could. Are you proud of your little sister?♡
It sounds like Princess Oichi was a wonderful person. I can't begin to understand why you did what you did, but I think if you regret what came of it, losing your precious sister, then I can't hold it against you. After all, I've never had any siblings before. Mama and Papa said that just me was more than enough to make them happy.
And thank you for the beautiful gift. I will keep it close to me at all times. Ufufu, I imagine everyone would be afraid of me if I told them I was protected by the one and only Oda-sama.
May the change of the seasons be kind to you.
Your little sister, Nishikino Maki

Your carrier lovingly hacks up a small package that would fit in your hand, as well as a handwritten letter with some sort of armored animal drawn in the corner...
Dear Friend,
We may not know each other very well yet, or maybe at all! I've only seen one battle here, but the amount of bravery and care that people have shown for one another both on and off of the battlefield lets me know I'm part of something special. People have lost their homes and loved ones, and while we can't bring those back, I know that there are people here to believe in. And I'm very lucky to get to fight alongside them.
It's not much, but I hope you enjoy a few snacks that I've made! A full tummy always makes me feel better. Maybe we can share a snack together in person sometimes soon.
Sincerely,
Orihime Inoue & Kou-kun 井上織姫とコウくん
The package is wrapped in pink and blue paper. When unwrapped, your character will find three cute little animal-themed pastries! (You're welcome to decide which three.) They have a sweet bread outer layer and some curious fillings...
Pink Bunny is hopping and happy to see you! It is filled with a sweet carrot cream. Purrfect Kitty is very pleased and ready to be eaten! It is filled with some sort of chopped meat, reminiscent of a BBQ Pork bun. Sleeping Froggy knows it's delicious. It's filled with a MYSTERY FLAVOR...which is either a sour green apple or...seaweed? Friendly Puppy isn't supposed to have chocolate, but it's filled with it anyway. Don't tell anyone! Cute Chicky is filled with a egg-flavored cream. Yeah, that one actually isn't surprising, although maybe a little morbid when you think about it.
[ Another letter! Maki apparently is popular, she imagines. She primps her hair with a pleased air as she reads through the letter and can't help but smile at the gift too!
Polite as she is, and raised properly she makes sure to reply by letter as well. ]
Dear Inoue-san and Kou-kun,
The summer heat is fading away, and it will be Kannazuki before long, won't it? I hope the change of seasons treats you well.
I appreciate the letter and your support. I know that I'll be working harder from here on out, for everyone's sake.
And thank you for the pastries! The little puppy chocolate was cute and tasted the best, almost tasted like these little chocolate pastries I had back in Paris when I was younger.
I look forward to working together with you sometime.
[This package you will receive doesn't come by Carrier. Rather, Vietnam has given strict instructions that this will be treated like every large package, and will be delivered like so. After all, it is one! A letter, and a little box. Wonder what it is? And when do you receive it? Any time between the September 6th to the 15th. And in the case of the newer Heroes, it comes sometime on the 8th or after (hint hint).]
COMRADE,
No matter our opinions of our situation or this place, we are all the same, brought here from different places. Still, we all have each other. Whatever fate has in store, we will chose. I suppose what cane be important here now are the bonds we create.
To celebrate that let me share a custom. In my world, sometime in the Autumn, is the Mid-Autumn Festival, known to me as Tết Trung Thu. It is said that during this time, the moon will be so round and will shine its brightest. To appreciate the moon, one can ask for blessings from the gods. You can give thanks for the harvest or harmonious unions. You can pray for prosperity and good fortune. But also, it is a time to spend together.
Each year will it would be celebrated on a different day. In the year I left, 2016, it should fall on September 15th. I believe the equivalent date here is Sylvant 15th. So please take this chance to relax. I have included one free pass to a two night stay at the inn I manage, Dragon's Flight and Phoenix Dance, located on Gisela. On these islands, you will be able to see the sky, so very close. I have also included a mooncake of lotus filling. As per custom, you share your mooncake with family and friends to signify unity. I hope it is to your tastes.
[ Sometime, while going through the usual fan mail, Maki is surprise to see a letter that doesn't seem quite like the others. Though she always does her best to read as many as she can...
When she opens this special one, to see it's from a friend, Maki lights up. ]
Ufufu, a free night's stay at a inn? I guess it would be a good time to take a little vacation... [ Maki is already thinking about what she'd bring when-- ] Who should I ask to go with me?
[ Still, she is ever the polite girl, and makes sure to reply by letter as well. ]
Dear Vietnam-san,
I hope the change in season from the heat of summer to the cool autumn treats you well.
Thank you for your letter and the presents! It seems like here, September is a month for letter writing, isn't it?♡ It makes me so excited to see all of these letters going in and out. I feel like I should be sending some out too...
I hope I will see you when I come to visit the inn, though I don't know yet when I'll have a chance to go. I can't wait though, I'm sure it's as impressive as a business managed by you would be.
And thank you for the mooncake, I haven't had lotus filled geppei before, usually we get them with azuki, but the taste really is something else!
[ Another letter? Maki is certainly appreciative, excitedly checking who it's from gives Maki a strange sense of existential dread. The name is familiar, and brings to mind an embarrassing memory. ]
I-I can't believe she wrote something... What does she mean I "seem cool"?! I'm sure she's just making fun of me...
[ And so she pens a response, thinking to herself that she would somehow show up Meliora but doing so, writing back in as girly and perfect penmanship as she manage. ]
Dear Meliora,
With the summer heat giving way to the cool breeze of autumn I hope the change of seasons treats you well.
I'm glad to hear you made it through the battle and are still in good spirits. It seems like my energy was not wasted, and I'm thankful for that.
I also enjoyed your photos. I didn't know you were into photography. If you ever need anyone to model I would be happy to help!
*A letter arrives, addressed to 'gentle hero,' the envelope and page is written in flawless script. As is the self-addressed envelope inside the letter. The address, wherever it is, is in Caissa. For those detail oriented enough to check. The letter also carries a slight scent of wildflowers, like someone made a point of marking the parchment with extracts before sending it.*
[ Maki as ever is happy to receive a letter, and makes sure when she replies she makes it as formal as possible. ]
Dear Tohsaka-san,
The warmth of summer may be giving way to the cool breeze of autumn but I hope these changing seasons treat you well.
Thanks for the letter! But you don't have to thank me, I was just doing what I thought I should do to help. My parents are both doctors, so I've learned a lot about the Hippocratic oath and everything. So if you need healing at all, I wouldn't mind if you called me. After all, I might be an idol but my healing skill is top-class too!
[On the morning of the 17th, Maki will be receiving a letter from Soleil!]
Maki,
How are things going? I’m sorry we haven’t talked a lot since the war ended. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks hasn’t it? But don’t think I’ve forgotten about you, okay? I’m actually sending you a letter to invite you out to tea with me. I remembered when we first met that you said you would show me your favorite cafes around here.
After you get this, we should meet up and talk more.
[Included with the letter is a small paper sachet with Maki's name written on the tag. On the inside there are tea bags labelled "Chocolate Chili Tea". There are no real instructions besides steeping time and steeping temperature.]
[ Another letter... Maki is excited to see who it's from, and quickly grabs her own stationary to write a reply back. Of course, Maki being Maki, she follows her letter writing rules she learned in school to the 't'. ]
Soleil,
With the lingering warmth of summer giving way to cool breeze of autumn, I hope you stay warm and healthy.
It's been a busy couple of weeks for me, with classes and things, so I understand. I hope you're taking care of yourself too. I wanted to thank you for helping me out, back then, but I wasn't sure how to do it. I mean, I didn't really need your help that badly, and I'm sure I could have gotten to my room on my own! I just... felt bad if I didn't accept your offer! Don't think too much about it okay?!
But I suppose I did offer to show you around sometime, so it's only natural that we go out together sometime. Just let me know when you're free and I'll schedule you in.
Thank you for the letter though, It's good to know you're settling in here. If you need any help with anything just let me know.

Lord Light,
I prefer black tea with tomato milk. But for fruit I guess something like pomegranate.

May your year be filled with prosperity.

I hope to hear from you again soon.

Maki,
I'm not thanking you for helping me out back in the battle. I didn't need it, and I definitely think you shouldn't waste your energy on noncombatants.
But you seem pretty cool, so I decided, hey, why not give you something I'm proud of in return?
You don't have to thank me either--I already know they're awesome.
Lady's blessings,
-Meliora

I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

I hope to talk to you again soon!

Until next time,
Soleil
[Included with the letter is a small paper sachet with Maki's name written on the tag. On the inside there are tea bags labelled "Chocolate Chili Tea". There are no real instructions besides steeping time and steeping temperature.]

Soleil,
With the lingering warmth of summer giving way to cool breeze of autumn, I hope you stay warm and healthy.

[ Okay she still got crazy tsun in there anyways... ]
